Omeo is a pioneering mountain town on the edge of the Snowy Mountains located on the Great Alpine Road that is known for its gold mining history, high country cattle grazing and historic buildings, including the post office, court house, pub, and 1858 jail built of logs.


THINGS TO DO :

Visit - the A.M. Pearson Historical Park to see the town’s original courthouse (1865), post office (1890s), log lockup (1858), blacksmith shop, stables and waterwheel.

Take - in panoramic views of the Victorian Alps and surrounding countryside at the Kozsciusko Lookout just outside the town along the Great Alpine Road.

Four-wheel drive - along the 17-km Knocker Track

Fish - for trout in the nearby Mitta Mitta and Cobungra Rivers

Join - a white water rafting trip down the Mitta Mitta River

Walk - through spring wildflowers on the Bogong High Plains In winter, spend a day cross-country skiing at nearby Dinner Plain or head to Mount Hotham for its magnificent downhill runs just 40 minutes away.
